JOB TITLE Secondary Science Teacher
DEPARTMENT Science
JOB SUMMARY:
The Teacher of Science will be responsible for delivering high quality teaching, through planning engaging lessons to enable all pupils to make the best possible progress. The Teacher of Science must be able to demonstrate excellent subject knowledge and communicate this in an enthusiastic and imaginative way.
In addition, they will be expected to contribute to the routine and extra-curricular life of the school, as well as that of the department.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Promote and be committed to the school’s goals and objectives
- Educate students by planning and developing course of study consistent with the Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) guidelines
- Implement policies from the school
- Promote and be committed to securing high expectations for learning
- Provide a stimulating and engaging learning environment
- Plan and deliver high quality lessons on a daily basis
- Set appropriate homework for classes and monitor progress
- Assess, record, and track the progress of students
- Have due regard for maintaining health, safety and security
- Undertake duties around the School as and when required
- Comply with any reasonable request from an administrator to undertake work of a similar level that is not specified in this job description
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Qualified to relevant degree or above
EXPERIENCE:
- Good experience of teaching IGCSE and/or A level in Science
- Proven good record of teaching experience
- Experience of being part of a highly successful department and school
- Good classroom management and interpersonal skills
- Raising attainment level
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of a range of pedagogic approaches to cater for different learning styles and ensure that all students are engaged
- Up-to-date subject knowledge
- Understanding of what constitutes effective teaching for learning
- The capacity to form positive learning-centred relationships with young people from a diverse range of backgrounds
- Excellent classroom practitioner (or potential to be)
- Good level of IT skills
- Flexible approach and readiness to respond to individual pupil needs
- Commitment to improving teaching and learning, and continued professional development
