School Nurse

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Treatment of minor illness, injuries and sickness for students, staff and visitors
  • Attending to senior injuries and ensuring a safe and comfortable transfer to hospital
  • Producing and completing the relevant information to the Medical Officer, Principal, Class teacher and parents as appropriate.
  • Provide instruction in the use of emergency medication that may be needed by particular students.
  • Maintaining the clinical area ensuring medication is clearly labelled and in date.
  • Keeping records of injuries/sickness seen in the clinic.
  • Giving advice and information to promote health and wellbeing e.g., drugs, education and diet, etc.
  • Promoting and participating in health education in conjunction with the leadership team and inclusion staff.
  • Providing training to staff on health care issues and advising on ‘Healthy School’issues.
  • General upkeep of the clinic.
  • Child protection and safeguarding.
  • Reporting to teaching staff/parents about any developmental or medical issues that may require further medical investigation.
  • Any other appropriate duties as collected by your medical officer and members of the school’s leadership team.


  • Professional nursing qualification, qualified nurse
  • Current training in the medical area
  • Minimum of 2 years nursing experience.
  • Capable of attending to both minor and major issues.
  • Appropriate medical knowledge e.g., Asthma, Epilepsy, Diabetes and Hypertension, etc.
  • Experience of working with children and adults.
  • School working experience
